I painted “Yawn” to capture a fleeting moment that feels both powerful and unexpectedly playful. With its head tilted back, teeth exposed, and paw resting casually below, the tiger appears fierce at first glance, yet the simple act of yawning reveals a softer, more familiar side of this magnificent animal. I chose a dramatic black background and a monochromatic palette to keep the focus entirely on the tiger’s expression, using fine, layered strokes to create the texture of the fur, whiskers, and facial details. I especially enjoyed the contrast between the strength suggested by the tiger’s teeth and powerful features and the vulnerability of this completely natural, unguarded moment. Through this painting, I wanted to show that even the most majestic creatures have quiet, ordinary moments that make them feel wonderfully alive.
